Company History
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1999, the industry veteran, Steve Stamatiadis, Creative Director joined forces with the surfing photographer Robert Walsh, CEO, while working on a PC surfing title to form Krome Studios© . Krome was established with the goal of creating fun original and licensed games for PC, console and later handheld, systems. From a humble team of 5, Krome has grown exponentially each year to become Australia`s largest game development company and one of the top independent game developers in the world.
In its early days, Krome pioneered surfing games on the Playstation with Championship Surfer and Sunny Garcia Surfing, utilizing cutting edge in-house technology. Following this, Krome produced a number of best selling children`s titles including games for the Barbie, Disney and Nickelodeon franchises. Now Krome`s profile in the industry has risen, producing one to two games per year, all on-time and on-budget.
Since its inception, Krome has nurtured a team of talented game makers and has gone on to make nearly a dozen best selling console and PC games including the TY the Tasmanian TigerTM series which has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Krome prides itself in being of the rare breed of game developers to take its own intellectual property from games to TV, after securing a deal with DPS Film Roman, producers of The Simpsons, to develop TY the Tasmanian Tiger into an animated cartoon.
To date, Krome has shipped 10 titles comprising of 37 SKUs on PC, Dreamcast, PlayStation® , Playstation® 2, Xbox® , GameCubeTM and GameBoy® Advance, and is currently in development of The Legend of SpyroTM: A New Beginning and Hellboy (working title).
